No one dispenses justice in a story quite like Lisa Oliver does. The bad guys get it and the good guys come out on top.This story starts with the alpha, Karl, officially leaving his old pack and soon meeting his fated mate, Tanner. Neither is what the other expects and that is where the angst starts.There were a couple points where I thought the plot would go a certain way... and it didn’t. Bravo for keeping me guessing.In the afterword, the author acknowledges the challenge of a “stand alone” story. This is a bit of a joke among her fans as there are usually so many great secondary characters clamoring for their own story. Let’s hope that is the case here too.My only quibble is the turnaround in Karl’s attitude toward a male omega comes very quickly. I expected a bit more struggle than that, put it down to the pull of the mate bond, I guess.Great story! Alpha wolf shifter Karl is the heir to his birth pack. A pack he hasn't had much to do with. Instead he's a city wolf, owns his own successful company, a workaholic single guy. To date he's not interested in the females his uncle's trying to pawn off. Nope, he's waiting for his fated mate.Karl is all alpha, but a patient one. Of course there are misunderstandings when he scents omega Tanner. While their claiming wasn't instant, it was spectacular for Karl. Not so much for Tanner. What a well written scene. I sometimes wonder about those clueless alphas.There is a pattern of PA's being involved in these types of stories. Just saying. Tanner and Karl were wonderful characters that made mistakes and learned from them. Each were accepting of their lives, the changes that happen, and working as partners together with goals. Watching the formation of a new pack. . . Yet also wondering what happened to Blue Moon. (Obviously my nit pick there). I do hope a new series will come out of this one because it'd be fun to see how this pack in San Diego grows. I won't say this one has new and fresh ideas, but what's there comes together in a nice satisfying story.
